The pilots of the Helicopter Squadron of the  93rd Air Base of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence in the Barracks “Pukovnik Mirko Vukušić” at  Zemunik from 12 – 17 September 2017 conducted their first autonomous tactical live firing and rocket launching from the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopters. Following the succesful live firing and rocket launching under the guidance of the U.S. instructors in August using the 12,7-mm machine guns and the 70-mm Hydra unguided rockets,  the Croatian pilots now performed firing and rocket launching autonomously, also using the 12.7-mm machine guns and the 70-mm Hydra unguided rockets, complemented with new firing and rocket launching elements, namely engaging the targets from the helicopters with practice laser guided Hellfire missiles and Heckler & Koch G36CV assault rifles, executing all crew procedures for the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopters.
This time the U.S- team were assigned with ground scoring and evaluating the hits and with the analysis of the imagery from the Cockpit Video and Voice Recorder for the positions: pilot and crew (individually for each pilot on the left and right seat respectively and for the crews).
They evaluated the efficiency, speed and number of target-hitting runs. The shooting was conducted in both day- and night-time conditions. The evaluation comprised the individual scores from the four weapons fired. The overall process, including the approach and target acquisition, engaging and rocket launching, helicopter guidance are procedures pertaining to special operations training of the Croatian flying crews.
