Defence Minister and Chief of General Staff visit wartime poster exhibition
The exhibition of the wartime posters was opened in the Ministry of Defence’s gallery “Zvonimir” in Zagreb on 3 August 2015, attended by the Croatian Defence Minister and the Chief of the General Staff .
The Exhibition displays 44 original posters from the Homeland War, depicting the horrors of war and their toll on the Croatian cultural heritage from 1991-1995, by renowned Croatian artists, photographers and designers such as Boris Ljubičić, Dalibor Jelavić, Predrag Došen, Ratko Petrić etc.
The Exhibition author is Marijo Reljanović of the Military Museum and Exhibitions Department of the Public Affairs and Publishing of the Ministry of Defence, who emphasised it was the first such exhibition. The posters fall into two categories – the posters addressing the European and international public, displaying the effects of distruction and exile, while the posters addressed to the home public were an invitation to join the defence and attend various cultural events with humanitarian missions.
Minister Kotromanović said the Exhibition was an opportunity to remember the Homeland War and to save it from oblivion. “Today, twenty years from the Military and Police Operation “Storm”, we need to commemorate the Victory and the Homeland Gratitude and the Croatian Defenders Day in a dignified and patriotic manner“.said the Minister.
General Lovrić emphasised the exhibition reminded of the war years and the strength of the Croatian military, as well as the fallen and disabled defenders and the veterans of the Croatian Homeland War. This is a sacred week for the members of the Croatian Armed Forces, to be crowned with the ceremony of 5 August in Knin. The Croatian soldiers will commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Operation “Storm“ wherewer they are – from Kosovo, Afghanistan to Somalia and the Mediterranean“, said General Lovrić.
