Military Police marks three Important anniversaries

The 15th anniversary of the first military Military Police platoon to ISAF, the 25th anniversary of the Anti-terrorist Military Police Unit and also the 25th anniversary of the 74th Military Police Company were marked in the Barracks "Croatia"

The 15th anniversary of the deployment of the first military Military Police platoon to ISAF, the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Anti-terrorist Military Police Unit of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia and also the 25th anniversary of the establishment of 74th Military Police Company were marked in the Barracks “Croatia” in Zagreb on 1 March 2018. Alongside the families od the fallen and missing members of the Military Police and the former commanders, the ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Croatia  Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović as Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces, the State Secretary for Defence Tomislav Ivić, the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov, the Head of the Military Intelligence Agency, Brigadier General Ivica Kinder, the first Commander of Military Police  Lieutenant General Mate Laušić (Ret.), commanders, general officers and admirals and the representatives of the Office to the President of the Republic, of the Ministry of Defence, of the Ministry of the Interior and of the Ministry of the Homeland War Veterans. President Grabar-Kitarović stated that the Military Police, in particular the Anti-terrorist unit, gave an immense contribution in the Homeland War. “Military Police took part in all important military operations and many of them sacrified lives for the freedom of Croatia, and we owe them deep gratitude. In the dynamic post-war environment however it became obvious that the interests of the Republic of Croatia have to be defended beyond its borders, which led to the international engagement of the Croatian Armed Forces, and the Military Police had a prominent role“, said the President. The State Secretary for Defence Tomislav Ivić reminded that the members of the Military Police – 15 years ago – were the first Croatian servicemen deployed in the peace operation in Afghanistan. “It was the first organised, trained, evaluated, equipped and armed unit of the Croatian Armed Forces to have taken part in an international activity; from a recipient of the international assistance Croatia became an active participant of peace operations and missions worldwide“, said Secretary Ivić. The Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov said  that during the Homeland War many outstanding combatants, enlisted soldiers, NCOs and officers and generals served in Military Police: “The Military Police units, in particular the anti- terrorist Military Police, were engaged in almost all operations by the Croatian Army, demonstrating courage, responsibility and professionalism, as I witnessed to myself in  Operation “Maslenica“ . We are today commemorating major operations which engaged the Anti-terrorist unit: “Maslenica“, “Lightning“, “Summer 95, “Storm“, “Maestral“ and “South Move“ . General Šundov reminded of NATO’s  Defence Policy and Operations Committee and of the Political SubCommittee on Central and Eastern Europe witnessing to the the Platoon’s readiness level. “All MP platoons deployed since 2003 showed outstanding professionalism and have proved themselves as one of the most appreciated partners from the region. The efficiency and the role of the Croatian Military Police in ISAF led to the decision on nominating Croatian the Lead Nation in establishment of the Military Police School of the  Afghan National Army “. The Head of the Military Police Sector, Colonel Vlado Kovačević expressed belief that the members of the military police service would continue the honourable and professional service, to the pride of the Croatian people and of the Croatian Armed Forces. The first commander of the Croatian military police, Lieutenant General (Ret.) Mate Laušić also addressed the audience: “I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with you for 12 years and to take part in the Homeland War. I extend my sincere congratulations on your anniversary;and believe that you will continue to work for the benefit of Croatia beyond its borders“. The ceremony featured the presentation of promotions and awards.
