MMC Green Knights Croatia – motorcycle fans from Croatian Armed Forces
“MMC Green Knights Croatia“ is a Croatian chapter of the Military Motorcycle Club founded in New Jersey in 2000, and has been active for seven years now. Their main mission is charity activity and motorcycle safety, but they also regularly take part in blood donation campaigns
Although motorcyclists are most often associated with riding fast and wild, Green Knights are hardly anything like that. They respect discipline and order, their Club features strict rules and the main goals are charity work and promotion of motorcycle safety. They are manned by the military personnel (of the Ministry of Defence and of the Croatian Armed Forces), and before becoming full members, they undergo 6-month trial period under mentorship. They are the members of the Green Knights Military Motorcycle Club Green Knights Croatia, and their number is growing year by year.
It is a Croatian chapter of the Military Motorcycle Club Green Knights, founded in New Jersey (US) in 2000, and it has recently opened another chapter.
”The first chapter is composed of members from the area stretching from Istria and Primorje to Zagreb, and was established in 2013. We were five at first, until in late 2019 the Split Chapter was established and we are 18 now. Our goal is to attract as many members as possible and to conduct as many charity activities as possible”; says Sergeant First Class Davor Fak, the president of Green Knights Croatia 1.
Charity is one of the Club’s main missions, and the members have the obligation to organise at least one campaign annually.
”The money we collect in campaigns has to be used for a strict purpose” explains Sergeant Fak. In the previous campaigns the members collected the money for children with special needs, for the treatment of their colleague, and they also collected assistance for the homeless, and take part in blood donating campaigns regularly”.
Rules of conduct
”The members of the Split chapter are all motorcycling enthusiasts and as we serve aboard various ships we get little time together. Our passion is also helping people and we are all blood donors”, says the president of the Split Chapter of the Green Knights Croatia, Corporal Marko Svirčić.
The last campaign was held about ten days ago, when the members of the Club joined a blood donation campaign for the University Hospital Centre in Split.
The Statutes prescribe strict rules of conduct on the members, who are expected to guard the reputation, and are sanctioned for any misconduct.
The order and discipline in the Club is the responsibility of Staff Sergeant Tomislav Biljak, although he stresses that his role is a symbolic one and involves least effort.
”We represent the Croatian Armed Forces by riding our motorcycles just as we represent them through our service and the uniform we are wearing. Although I have ridden the motorcycle for 30 years already, I have never been a member of a motorcycle club.
In addition to spending time together, I have been attracted mostly by the fact that we represent the Croatian Armed Forces. We have combined our motorcycling enthusiasm with our commitment to the service. We have to mind the reputation of the Croatian Armed Forces by abiding to the regulations and rules while riding, as we wear the official insignia on our safety gear”, says Staff. Sgt. Biljak.
Green is the Club’s official colour, and the patch features the official emblem, the member status the bearer in the Club and the international emblem with the number of the armed forces gathered in the Club – 121.
