The President of the Republic of Croatia as the Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović paid a first official visit to the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces on 3 July 2015, where she was welcomed by the Defence Minister, Ante Kotromanović and the Chief of the General Staff, General Drago Lovrić.
It was an occasion to discuss the topics related to the daily operation and development of the defence system. The President visited the General Staff’s Operations Centre, where she held a meeting with the senior military officials and was briefed on the organisation, the achievements and the most important tasks ahead.
The talks also covered the Croatian Armed Force’s contribution to the collective security through participation in the peace support operations, in NATO and the EU response forces and in the international exercises; the achieved level of transformation, modernisation and equipping, the upgraded personnel management system, transparent processes and new education programmes tailored to the defence system ‘s future needs, as well as support provided by the Croatian Armd Forces to the civilian community, primarily through medical flights, fire prevention and search-and-rescue operations.
The President also visited the premises of the General Staff and saw the working environment first-hand.
