The formal send-off ceremony for the 3rd HRVCON to Resolute Support in Afghanistan was held in the “Pukovnik Marko Živković“ Barracks at Pleso on 1 September 2015.
The ceremony was attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Drago Lovrić, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Dragutin Repinc, the commanders of the services of the Croatian Armed Forces, the heads of the General Staff directorates and other invitees.
General Lovrić extended wishes for successful completion of assigned tasks to the members of the 3rd HRVCON, which, as General said, was an opportunity to acquire new experiences and knowledge co-operating with the Allies and partners. “The international military operation -ISAF – and the Resolute Support mission have brought peace to Afghanistan and restored the faith in the future as their most important outcome“, said General Lovrić.
The 3rd HRVCON Commander, Colonel Mijo Haršanji expressed his pride over being assigned the duty. Col. Haršanji called on the members of the Contingent to follow the security procedures to enable successful completion of tasks and minimise risks.
The 3rd HRVCON to Resolute Support comprises 77 members of the Croatian Armed Forces, 17 members of the Army of Montenegro, two members of the Albanian Armed Forces, two members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and one member of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia.
Upon termination of ISAF in late 2014 NATO nations and partner countries continued to contribute to Afghanistan through the Resolute Support mission, launched on 1 January 2015.
A total of 4634 members of the Croatian Armed Forces (166 females) have been engaged in the operations in Afghanistan since 2003 (ISAF and subsequently Resolute Support).
