The Croatian pilots conducted the first live firing with 12.7-mm machine guns and the 70-mm Hydra unguided rockets launching from the Kiowa Warrior helicopters in the Training Range “Eugen Kvaternik”. On 1 and 2 August 2017 the members of the Helicopter Squadron of the 93rd Air Base of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence (based in the Barracks “Pukovnik Mirko Vukušić“  at Zemunik) performed live firing and rocket launching from the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior. It was their first live fire and rocket launching experience and concluded the training provided  by the U.S. flight and aircraft maintenance instructors. The pilots conducted aerial firing and rocket launching against ground targets at the Range with the 12.7-mm machine guns and the Hydra 70-mm unguided rockets NRZ); the hit scoring was conducted by the U.S. evaluator teams. The event also served as the final field combat training in helicopter attending for the air maintenance technicians.
On completion of the day and night time live firing, the pilots have been certificated as capable for autonomous administering of all training programmes and will continue to train the Croatian pilots, and so have the technicians.  The pilots had their maided fights on Kiowa Warrior helicopters on the occasion of the marking of the 22nd anniversary of the Military and Police Operation “Storm“ on 5 August, flying in the aerial parade with other pilots and crews.
