The Mechanized Platoon of the 2nd Mechanized Company of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion “Gromovi” (“Thunders”) travelled with their Patria AMVs from Petrinja to the training and artillery range in Várpalota, north of Lake Balaton in Hungary, where they participated in the international military exercise Brave Warrior 18 from 22nd September to 6th November 2018. The Croatian forces were accommodated in Camp Ujmajor.

Apart from the host country’s soldiers, troops from the USA, the UK and Slovakia took part in the exercise, the aim of which was to increase the forces’ interoperability in all weather conditions during the day and at night.

Prior to the exercise, the Mechanized Platoon conducted a live fire exercise on the artillery range. The command of the Hungarian battle group, which is currently in the process of being certified for NATO’s tasks, commanded all the troops, which successfully completed every task. The exercise demonstrated that the synergy of weapons and each participating nation’s capabilities resulted a battle group that was more effective than each nation’s individual forces.

Before the start of the exercise, all participants’ weapons and equipment were presented. Croatian forces presented the Patria AMV 8 x 8, the VHS assault rifle and the soldiers’ personal equipment. The displayed equipment attracted a lot of interest.

The Croatian ambassador to Hungary Mladen Andrlić and political counsellor Maja Rosenzweig Bajić paid a visit to the Croatian forces.
