President visits the Croatian Navy
The President of the Republic and the Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović on 4 June 2015 paid the first official visit to the Croatian Navy in the Lora Navy Port, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff, General Drago Lovrić the President was welcomed by the Navy Commander, Commodore Predrag Stipanović. The President paid respects in the Memorial Room dedicated to fallen Navy members in the Homeland War. Following the presentation on the Croatian Navy’s mission and readiness, delivered by the Commander, the President visited the Navy Operations Centre and the Navy Training Centre and commended the morale and trainedness of the personnel of the Croatian Navy – the seamen, petty officers and officers and stated that it was capable of executing any task and orders assigned to them under the Constitution and laws. The President congratulated the Navy members for the recently demonstrated RBS-15 missile firing capability, maintained employing Navy’s own skills and resources.The President also expressed satisfaction over the ongoing equipping and modernisation projects (the inshore patrol vessel, modernised radar systems, counter-mine operations), and stated that modernisation was a continuous task, coupled with the investment into the human resources as the main value of the defence system. Briefed by the Navy Commander on the upcoming engagement in the maritime border control Operation “Triton“ (as of 1 August 2015), deploying the “Andrija Mohorovičić“ Hydrographic Survey Ship, the President highlighted the importance of the engagement in the Operation (in proportion to the resources), whereby the Croatian Armed Forces contributed at once to its humanitarian cause and to the prevention of potential security threats both to the EU and Croatia.
